The Imagery of Chess Revisited
In 1944 a New York gallery invited a series of artists to redesign the standard chess set or create works that dealt with the imagery of the game. Participating were André Breton, Alexander Calder, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Isamu Noguchi, Man Ray, and Kay Sage. Twelve sets from the original show are on view, as well as several related paintings and sculptures.
