I was unable to install the games that I get emailled to me into
Chessbase Light in their supplied format. I had to change the
heading "GameID" to "Event" before they would import successfully. Is
this a known feature? What programs do others use that import the
games without any alterations?

I just tried this. Don't know if this will work for you or not. I'm
using "WINBOARD".

I e-mailed ten completed games to myself. When I opened the e-
mail, I used 'select all', then copied it onto my clipboard, then created
a new text document on my desktop using notepad. I opened the
new document, pasted the contents of the clipboard into it, then saved
it as a PGN file instead of a TXT file.

I exited everything, then double-clicked on the new pgn file I had just
created, and it went right into winboard and showed the ten games.
From there I was able to select any of the games and it would load it
and start playing the moves.

No problem.

You should be able to find WINBOARD by using your search engine,
and download a copy of it. It is freeware.

Post back and let us know how it works for you if you decide to try
that. If you can't find 'winboard' let me know here, and I will find a link
and post it here for you.

What about us lowly mac users Marc, are we not good enough for your wise advice? I'm just kidding
btw, if I'd wanted software compatibility, I'd have bought a PC!

Take a look at this....

http://members.aol.com/Macchess/

I don't have any mac experience, but I took a quick look at the
features and maybe it would be useful.

I found it by typing "mac chess engine" into a search program
(google) and it came back with a lot of hits. The one above is the
only one I looked at, but give it a look, anyway.

I believe "Event" is the heading used most often by PGN reading
programs.

RHP uses game numbers to keep track of site games, so the
term "GameID" is quite natural to use. RHP could, however, program
the term "Event" in place of "GameID" for created PGN files.

However, you can simply copy all your games into your pc Notepad
program and use the "Edit" menu to use the "Replace" item to replace
all instances of "GameID" with "Event" found in the games.
ChessBase should then have no problem reading all your games.
