This is just one of the small ones and in our times, just over 100 years ago. Would you like that on your town? We (the human race) lucked out big time on this one.
not in my town, but if you could direct it towards say, Buckingham palace we might rid ourselves of the last vestiges of the aristocracy one and for all. That would be just fine.

In 1973, Lauterbur published the first nuclear magnetic resonance image.[6][7] and the first cross-sectional image of a living mouse was p ...[text shortened]... s to take seconds rather than hours and produce clearer images than Lauterbur had.

See, that's why I said that magnetic resonance imaging was a "spin-off" of the space program. NASA did not directly invent the final product, ready for use in hospitals. NASA developed closely related technologies that then made it possible for researchers in other areas more directly concerned with the medical sciences, like Lauterbur, to be able to come up with their own innovations. (Most research is based on prior research.) That's what "spin-off" means. There's a whole book out there that lists hundreds of very beneficial inventions in medicine and other fields that can trace their lineage back to things developed during the Apollo program and other space ventures.

If you don't believe NASA and are, say, a "moon hoax" aficionado, you can dig into other sources that corroborate the claims made on the site.

I am not a monarchist, but when I think about the Vichy French and compare them to the occupied Danish government and King Christian X during WWII, I am much more open-minded than I used to be.

Even if you convinced him that an asteroid was heading our way next week, he'd just tell you it's all part of "God's plan".

i think it finally hit home, the sheer waste of resources, the Americans spent countless
hundreds of thousands of dollars on producing a pen that could defy gravity and write
in space, the Russians used a pencil!

I'm not a moon hoax aficionado, nor do I deny that technological advancements have
been made, nor do i think that asteroids are Gods plan, feel your bum mate or get
someone to do it for you, anything to help you get a grip on reality.

Lol, anyone who invented the French defence is worthy of condemnation. I am almost
contemplating the English opening (spit ding) to avoid it. Yes the French have a lot to
answer for. . . , if it wasn't for them wed still be ruling America and all would be well.
Hamburgers in Boston would cost three dollars instead of thirty and GB would be
talking with a Yorkshire accent rather than with marbles in his mouth. 🙂

Did you really look at that image? It destroyed about a thousand square miles of forest. That is in recent times, not millions of years ago.

That, I'm afraid, is a myth.

By the way, pencils proved not to be a good idea in zero-grav. That graphite dust gets everywhere and kills the electronics, which is not good if you're trying to land. Especially if, as the Russians did, you're trying to land on land.
