Religion is the reason we have Christmas, of course. And while I'm
not religious, I believe we are too commercialistic in the USA.

Christmas is a wonderful time to celebrate the good things religion
has done to raise the human spirit to a higher level.

Even from a non-religeous point of view, it's a damn good excuse for
family and friends who have moved apart to get back together again;
forget the comercialisation.
Unfortunatly it also drills home to people who don't have, or can't be
around, family and friends that they're alone. It's not a fun time for
everyone..
