Honestly, his stuff doesn't really do much for me. I read "Choke" and thought it seemed like he was really trying very hard to be outrageous and over-the-top. The writing wasn't all that great, and the story wasn't the least bit believable. He reminds me a lot of Augusten Burroughs or David Sedaris--part of this new breed of writers going out of their way to be "edgy".
If you go for this kind of stuff, I'd forget about these guys and pick up something by Martin Amis.
