I got an idea from the Veggies sponsored tournament, which I've managed to persuade (bribe 🙂) Russ into implementing in the next few weeks.
The idea is to have a tournament where the first move is forced for all games, sponsored by the Hardcore Pawn Stars, whose central tenet is to use a non-e4/d4 opening in all games (and incidently has space for 5 more members)
The first one of these will be Bird's Opening, where all games will automatically start 1.f4 We then plan to have further tournaments with different openings every 3 months or so, interest permitting.
I had a great idea this lunchtime for cool addition to the site... these tournaments will have several hundred games all with the same opening and would serve as great reference databases to study that particular opening.
What I'd like to do is (once the tournament has finished) collect all the games and publish them as a self contained ChessBase database, maybe with analysis of the games too. Our clan can publish these on our website, and maybe Russ would host them here too. These databases can be very simply read with a free version of ChessBase.
