Would you care to explain?

just go to www.climateprediction.net

basically you download software which runs a general circulation model of the coupled atmosphere-ocean system on your PC when it is idle, and uploads the model output to the guys at climateprediction.net for literally years of fun data analysis 😴

edit: sorry it's a slab ocean model not a fully coupled GCM

So computer nerds can feel the sense of acceptance that goes with being part of a group.

The idea is to predict the climate for the next century or so. This takes an awful lot of computing power so these guys are using the idle computers that sit at home to help out and get the results faster than using just their own pooters. Predicting the climate is good as you will find out if buying that holiday home in the Seychelles is a good idea or not.

I think it's a great idea - especially if you're using your office computer.

And it's quite hypnotic watching the globe spin on your screen. I'm waiting to see if I get a Nuclear Winter in my models....

I run the Seti one at work.
