There used to be a web site called Pawnpusher, and they had a page about the Chess Metaphor Liberation Organisation. It protested the too frequent use of chess as a metaphor for any activity in which the speaker believes some thought is required. For example, every physical sport has been called chess with gloves on or chess on ice or chess with a goal line or whatever. Anyway, I heard one the other day . . .
I work in a factory where business has been a little slow lately. I spent a few days helping out in the warehouse. The fellow I was working with knows I'm into chess, so when we had the task of re-organizing a whole bunch of boxes he said, See, what we're doing here is like a game of chess . . . LOL!!! 🙂
