I used to have to regularly drive cross country for work. A place we a passed was called Shirburn.
I couldn't stop reading it as Shitburn, Caused many a giggle.

Baggwyllydiart. Hamlet in Herefordshire. Two travelers passing through stop at a restaurant and after ordering a meal, ask the waitress, “would you please tell us where we are, and pronounce it very slowly?“ The waitress answers “b u r — g e r — K i n g.”

A friend of mine (from Somerset), was accused of stealing the town markers to this place and storing them in his garage.
I should have noticed it earlier - but all the signs were there.

Hmmm ... seems place-naming is a bit of a local sport, quite apart from some indigenous tongue-twisters like

which they tell us is "where the devil urinates" in the ancient local language.
