Why can't Estate Agents speak English?? Almost every house's description I have seen recently contains the poor English along the lines of: lovely detached four bedroom property comprising of entrance hall, sitting room etc. etc.
Please can we teach them that the word comprise means consist of .
End of rant!

So how about "watching on"? If "to watch" means "to look on" then they're looking on on ...
I've noticed Americans like to add a preposition. We say "visit a friend", they say "visit with a friend". We say "close an account", they say "close out an account".
I've given up ranting about sloppy English, I just observe it now. Most people are almost unfamiliar with grammar nowadays. I BLAME THE EDUCATION SYSTEM!!!!

No, we can't. They're estate agents - they're incapable of learning good English. Or Dutch, for that matter. These are the people who think "the-an-sweet" is a noun. They're beyond salvage.

The expression "beyond salvage" denotes the situation before or after "beyond salvation"?

Up to a point. I'm in that despicable system, albeit nearing the end of my innings, and standards of expression, grammar, spelling are in a state of free fall. Other contributory factors are texting, appalling standards in the press and on TV, and, the worst of all in my view, no interest in reading.

There'll come a time when proper spelling and word usage will be a thing of the past...kinda like Latin I should think.😳

My son reads. Can't have him growing up and trying to explain he only reads Play Boy for the articles because that excuse won't work if he can't read.
