Just been given a link to Uberdownloads.com to get VLC Media Player and got the Copy-book virus too! (I scanned the download before running it and nothing showed).
Does anyone know how I can get rid of it - quickly, please.

That's the final task if nothing else works. I was just hoping there may be an in between bit! 🙂

Use your Anti-Virus program to do a full scan. As it seems to have let this virus in already, I would personally do an online scan at trendmicro or somewher like that. [maybe bitdefender]
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

If you have no AV installed, now would be a good time to get one.
AVG - http://free.avg.com/
Avira - http://www.free-av.com/
or
Avast - http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
are all available for free. [just use one]

The above would be a first step. You may need more.

Also, it's usually a good idea to download programs like VLC directly from the authors' sites.
In this case:

Thankyou, you wonderful man! 😀

(I do use AVG Free, and scanned the download before installing it.)
