"Where's the bar?"

We are booked on a 3 night , 4 day tour of Beijing.
3 nights in a 4* hotel, all meals provided, bus trips every day to different sights (birds nest stadium/ CCTV tower etc). entry through the first gate (second gate costs extra, that's where the good stuff is)......€60 per person. Sweet deal.
My wife booked it through a Chinese company, and everything was grand until they found out there were three westerners going.
"We have to charge the westerners €20 extra" she is told. "they expect a better service".
So we will be at the same hotel, going to the same places, in the same hotel room, eating the same food......It's like someone putting ice in your beer glass.

Originally posted by PalynkaThat's EXACTLY how i see it. My wife was as shocked as i was. I know i'll be treated better when i'm in her city ( i do have a tank general to go shooting pool with), and beijing people rip off all outsiders, even those from other chinese cities. I forsee a few words being shared next time they try to hit us up for extra cash. We only booked the trip because it was worth it for the hotel alone. We plan to go AWOL as soon as we get there, unless we actually want to go to the places they plan to take us.
