the music is a good idea! was it chosen by the players themselves? I would like to get back into cricket again but im too unfit at the moment and also dont know where the nearest cricket team is where i am lol

From a design issue, the site doesn't render well in firefox or mozilla, you might want to get some help styling your links so the fonts are the same size and they don't get lost in your banner, which is what happens at the moment. You should also make sure there are some contact details, how will anyone knwo where you are or how to get in touch?

Otherwise, it seems well composed and laid out.

Most of the core players have an intro tune which they chose themselves, except in the odd case where they could not be bothered. In that case I chose for them

Yeah as i said earlier firefox does not render it properly. I have since read that to get it to render in FF then setting the font in px will solve the problem. I have tried that and it has not worked. When I get some time I will sort it out, don't imagine it is too difficult. If i had to guess I would say it only renders properly in IE.

The site itself was not meant for general consumption, it was just really a bit of fun for the members and the opposition. It was in no way meant to be a mechanism to find players or opposition and hence the reason no contact details.

Thx for the comments.

Just looking at the source code I can see why it doesn't render well. You've got a heavenly host of javascript before anything (presumeably for the dropdown menus) and then all sorts of untidy styling HTML around your content. For a designer, it's like looking at a ball of wool which needs untangling.

Here's some links that might help you start designing cleaner source code and explain why heaps of javascript can be a nightmare.

http://www.brainjar.com/ (resources, tips etc)
http://www.alistapart.com/articles/dropdowns (very useful article on alterantive ways of making dropdown menus)
http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/css/propindex/all.htm (explanation of all CSS tags) worth checking out the rest of the site too, which expands on both CSS and HTML: http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/css/index.html
http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/html/index.html
www.w3c.org (more resources, advice, links and info on web standards etc)
and finally the master of HTML Eric Meyer: http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/css/

Should get you started. Out of interest, how did you build it? Frontpage, Dreamweaver, something else?

EDIT: I still think you should have a contact page in there, it really is a must. Why throw the chance for new players to join? Also, where are you based, the site says nothing about location that I can see.

Thx for the links...

The site is developed in asp.NET, now to be honest I have probably only written 20 line's of HTML for the site. The html is either generated at design time by .NET or at runtime by the asp.NET engine. This is now where the problem lies with FF when rendering a page. The asp engine does not recognise FF as an uplevel browser (loads on the internet about this).

I have since modified some things and it now recognises FF properly. There are still some issues regarding the grids and some issues with height, but for the most part it looks a lot better in FF.

Grid problems you can see anywhere - Missing the yellow border.
Height problems - Match report section and suttle differences on most pages.

To be honest not worried about new players, it is a social club that you are invited to play for (eesh sounds way snotty). News of the site is spread by email so people will know how to get touch. As I said earlier it's purpose is not to attract new players or opposition. It's main purpose is so that the boys can needle one another about batting averages and the like.

You are right about location - London is missing from the home page. It is tucked away in the history page.
