I quit completely 6 weeks ago, lost 20 pounds without even trying. Feel terrific.

I have been a heavy drinker for quite a few periods in my life, the worst being merchant navy for 6 months, working in Germany for 2 years and when I first came to London for 6 months when I was drinking more than 120 units a week. For the past 2 years I have been drinking about 80-100 units a week (I bottle vodka, 6 bottles wine and a few beers in the hou ...[text shortened]... chbag and jog every weekday to keep fit, yet have been drinking this poison too, madness I know.
i drink onece or less a month now, i used to drink almost every day, and in Galway its "normal" to start drink when the pubs open it was becoming an issue and a major issue so i knocked it on the head and gave up the fags too.
i feel much better and ive loads more money to spend, i sleep better and argue less, im never tired in work anymore and thats nice cause i work twelve hour shifts, it was hard at the start to resist the pub and i hate to admit but i have lost a few friends in the last three years.. seems people dont have many other plans apart from spendiong there hard earned cash on booze.. but its great not to feel tied to the pub,,and it seems 90 percent of my probems have gone because its the booze that was changing me into a pleasure seeking loonatic.
im free now, healthy and happy and not a bit bored (well somtimes)

As far as my heart goes I seem to be quite fit, as I said I BOTH cycle and jog every weekday, my pulse recovery time is very good (that's the time it takes for my pulse to drop after a good workout). At 49 I no longer run long distances, but have in the past ie up to 10 miles, the trouble with me is that I am too competitive against the clock and end up making it a real ordeal. But jogging about 2.5 miles 5 times a week in 20 mins is a reasonable workout for my heart and lungs plus a similar effort on the bike later in the afternoon. My dog certainly loves it, in fact it was due to him that I switched from longer distances to more regular but shorter distances, incidentally he also gets at least a 45 min brisk walk through the woods everyday, just in case anyone thinks he is only getting out 2 x 20mins a day. But back to the point I think I would put my heart fitness up against most others of my age (normal people I mean not ex athletes)

Is anyone else currently cutting down on drinking as I am? I've just done 3 weeks now keeping down to the recommended 21 units per week (as in the UK, that's about 10.5 pints beer or 2 bottles of wine)
