It looks like the chessops is down for good. For those who don't know it was a simple online guide to the basic opening lines, which was most useful when wanting to try something new or just to check I was remembering correctly.
Anyway, it looks like it's gone - does anyone know an alternate site that does a similar function?

I haven't looked at it very hard either. My initial impression is that it might be very useful.
The 'network' link takes you to the initial opening board and shows every possible opening move for white, and tells you it's name, etc. Once you select a move, it then shows every possible response for black and gives that name, etc......
The 'index' link shows an alphabetical list of openings, and once you select one it will show you a list of the moves involved with it.
Anyone checking it out, let us know what you think of it!!
It is back on!!
This is what happened:
IMPORTANT SITE ANNOUNCEMENT
The server holding the entire website was struck by a power outage during a storm on Friday morning (19th June), and all of its data was lost. The webmaster (that's me!) has only just been informed (Saturday evening) and will re-upload the entire site as soon as possible.
But it may take a whole day to upload all of the 13,000 site files by FTP. Visitors are therefore kindly requested not to use any part of the site until Sunday afternoon at the earliest, because they will only find links to missing pages and/or missing images. Look in again tomorrow for an update!
Many thanks - Peter Hobbs
