My friends,

I have just returned home from the funeral of a lovely lady Physically beautiful, yes but also possessed of that inner beauty that shined through in everything she did. She fought a fierce but losing battle against cancer and died at the age of 45.
A loving wife and mother of two children she was an inspirational teacher and mentor and a wonderful friend. She was passionate about her family, her subject (english literature) and her students, as well as about learning in general. She was learned, intelligent and witty with an infectious laugh which it was impossible not to join in with. A gentle woman full of compassion and understanding; if she ever raised her voice in anger, I certainly never heard it.
She was still mentoring students from her hospital bed ( though they didn't know it ) two weeks before she died and when the end was inevitable, she insisted on travelling to Birmingham (England) to take part in trials of experimental procedures so that others might be helped in the future.

I realise that none of you knew my friend but the world is a poorer place without her and writing this has helped me.

Finally I would like to share with you a poem which was read at the service entitled 'Farewell'

Farewell to Thee! But not farewell
To all my fondest thoughts of Thee;
Within my heart they still shall dwell
And they shall cheer and comfort me.

Life seems more sweet that Thou didst live
And men more true that Thou wert one;
Nothing is lost that Thou didst give,
Nothing destroyed that Thou hast done

Anne Bronte

Thanks
Dave

Your eulogy reminds me of the picture of the "virtuous woman" in Proverbs Ch 31 in the Bible

"...her price is above rubies"

Mike, thanks for sharing. I, too, have found some comfort of late by sharing a personal loss that touchd me deeply. Another reminder that community comes before chess. Best wishes.

Loosing a loved one is hard. She was still young. That makes it even harder to accept. Nevertheless I hope you and the others she had to leave behind will find themselves, someday, at peace with this loss.

Dave,
She is not gone. She never truly will be, for she is loved, and she spread love. She taught, and those who learned will teach. Her beautiful will live in everyone she loved, she taught, she touched, and they will spread her bounty to other forever.
Hug.
Sarah
