There were two replies to the "Gone...but not forgotten?" thread.
I was trying to work out if it was because:-
a) it was just a rubbish thread (it was one of mine so it's possible π)
b) no-one goes to the forums (not true)
c) nobody has any stories or can even remember any former users
d) people couldn't be bothered replying
I thought maybe it would be quite interesting to see who people could
remember, a chance to mention some names of people who used to
be prominent at the site and then left, the occasional story bla bla bla.
Only Bennett and Andrew agreed and felt like sharing.
So much for the community.

Maybe the community is just a little quiet these days. I remember
when I first joined. I never really contributed much, but enjoyed
reading the Forums. Then the Forums got a little ugly and I shied
away even more. Now I have enjoyed reading the Forums, but just
don't know what to say.
I always enjoy reading your posts, but don't know how to respond
sometimes. π Maybe I'm not familiar with how things are these
days. I'm a little old fashioned even though I'm only 45 years old. I
often feel like 85 and may even look that old. That's why I don't post
my picture. LOL π
I think I may have run out of words to say, but keep posting Mark and
I'll keep reading.

Keeping on with the current post is a bit cumbersome. I dont
have time to open all the threads to see the latest post. I used to
read all the post posted in the last 24 hours. But this is not feasible
unlsee I search all the threads. I'm sure this is a matter Russ and
Chrismo are looking into. They have done so much I wont even ask
for more.

new Forums, but I remember how easy it was to see the new posts.
I'm starting to like this new format, but it will still take some time
getting used to. π I do like the new smiles though.

certain points in the past. Sheesh, it's not even comparable. That's
part of the reason why it's frustrating at times. There's a large number
of people who come to the forums and who could really contribute but
don't.
I simply can't work out why only two people replied to the gone but not
forgotten thread (yes, yes, let it go, stop going on about it). If people
don't wish to share or can't shake of enough apathy to post then I've
nae got a problem with that. I was just waiting for some to mention
Howard (he really was a helluva guy), or Kingsize-Bishop, or
satri_tar_1, or IMNOHERO, or anyone who sort of stood out, that they
could remember above others. And nobody did.
Perhaps I'm expecting too much from the forums, or something that
just isn't there, and not being grateful enough for how good it is
anyway.

And Doug!!!! Will you shurrup!!! Don't give me any of this too old
malarkey! One of the most enjoyable times I've had at RHP in recent
weeks was in our conversation in the forum about Two Fat Ladies and
then Delia Smith!

I remember Kingsize-Bishop. I never played him, but he was doing
so well in his games that I was surprised when he left. He kind of
faded away, but I do remember that this was the time that someone
was dominating the Forums in a negative way and he may have just
not wanted to be a part of it. Satri_tar_1 seemed like a nice guy. I
played him once and he beat me badly, yet it seems too that there
was some bickering going on at that time and I saw that he just
stopped playing.
Whether we want to believe it or not, the Forums can play a very
important part of this site. I know that many come here to just play
chess, but if you peak into the Forums, it's hard to not be affected by
what is said.
I know I have spoken up in the past when I became angry and even
stoppped playing for a while because some things being said really
bothered me. I tend to get too emotionally involved at times and it
stresses me out. I'm working on that.
I guess I don't like to see a lot of controversy, but that's going to
happen here because of the number of people involved. Things are a
little quiet right now and I hope they liven up, but stay pleasant. I
guess we need to ask ourselves what type of site to really really want
to see. My 9 year old daughter plays here and I would like it to be a
site that she would be comfortable in being a part of. There are some
things that have been said and done that may have needed to be
done in private and not out in the open. I should try to remember
that if I have a problem with someone, it may be best to deal with it
privately. I did that recently and found a new friend.
Now you have me writing long posts Mark. LOL π
Thanks again and I too enjoy our chats.

some of the players from the past that I played but then realized that
they were still active. I guess I just haven't played some of them in a
while and/or they just don't post in the forums any more. It seemed
like too much work to go through all the old opponents and check
their profiles to see if they were still active or not. But I appreciated
your post none-the-less.
I agree with John that it is a little more difficult than before to keep up
w/ all the new posts to different threads. I think that's a factor.
btw...Hey Electric Dad. (one of the old opponents that came to mind)
How about throwing a game my way? A test to see if he still checks in
on the forumsπ
PS...I'm editing this post because the quote from Mark's post wasn't
what I thought it was. I was referring to his post about why more
people aren't contributing to the forums.
