How often is once and a while?

You would have to ask the OP who first stated it. Personally I haven't touched anything in the way of alcohol since 1992 and you? I quit smoking in 2004, which was much harder to do I must say!!!

The OP said nothing about "once and a while."

    OP said:
Nowadays I can “quit” at will and instantly, so I enjoy the occasional smoke.

Same thing Andy, don't you get it???

    Andy,
The "while" here indicates a period of time and "once in a while" implies something that happens infrequently during said period. The "every" is optional. The phrase is similar in structure to "every five minutes" and in meaning to another common phrase, "every now and then".

I hope this explanation clears it up for you and you NEVER have to ask again!!! 😛 😉

Nice copy/paste, but you didn't originally write "once in a while"... you wrote "once and a while."

You need to go back to the third grade.

Mentioning old age is not the problem. What's wrong is ridiculing and stereotyping old age.

    Andy,

You're just a big baby. You love to dish out but when it comes back at you, not so much!!! 😛 😉 There is no stereotyping at all, old age has its disadvantages and we both know it!!! 😉

I don't need pills to survive and I'm no slower than I was at 25.
My memory is just as sharp as ever and I welcome each new day as a gift.
I reject ageism as just another insidious form of discrimination.

I really don't believe you are no slower than you were 25 years ago, that is just nonsense Andy.

I never asked if you needed pills to survive. My question was do you take any medications? Which you still haven't actually answered.

As far as your memory being as sharp as ever only you would know that! Hopefully it will stay that way, for your sake.

Someone mentions age and you believe it is discrimination which couldn't be further from the truth. You haven't played a game in years Andy, why is that? Was your rating starting to drop too much?
