This guy is such an idiot.
*SPOILER, sort of* DO NOT READ IF YOU CARE ABOUT RETURN OF THE
JEDI.
Has anyone seen the end of Jedi in the 'new new' release on DVD?
Rather than having the older Anakin appear in 'ghost' form, he has
Hayden Christensen appearing. THIS MAKES NO SENSE! They have
old Obi Wan appearing (i.e., Alec Guiness) but young Anakin. It's
absurd.
He just doesn't know when to quit tinkering with movies. He ruined
the Greedo-Han scene in Ep IV, he's made an absurd change in VI,
what next?
I haven't watched the 'new new' releases of IV or V yet; I'm almost
reluctant to do so.

And what about that inane and superfluous scene in the revised IV with Han Solo and Jabba the Hutt? Good lord, it's awful. And I completely agree with the Greedo shooting first thing. It completely emasculates Han.
Hell, remember when Han is being lowered into carbon freeze in Empire? Leia says, "I love you" and like A TOTAL PIMP, Han responds, "I know." Now, in the script, he replies, "I love you too," but Harrison Ford improvised "I know." Why doesn't Lucas just change that too, to go with his supposedly "ideal version of the films."
I simply can't comprehend why Lucas just won't let the films stand as a testament to the time in which they were made. He's destroying some of the best movie memories I had as child.
Oh, wait. The cynic in me thought of a reason why Lucas keeps tinkering with the movies.

pod race or the extra 5 seconds of flight in Coruscant, for example, are ok. It's the
changes in dialogue or action that irritate me.
For example, why did he change Luke's silenct to a scream when he drops down the
shaft at Cloud City? To boot, it is the identical sound bite as the Emperor's when he
fell down the shaft at the end of VI! I mean the man OWNS Industrial Light and Magic?
Couldn't he go out and record a new sound for heaven's sake?!?
Why not change all the times that R2D2 was backwards on the film? That would make
sense. Why not change Darth Vader's chest apparrel to make it blink in Ep IV like it
does in Ep V or VI? That would make sense. Why not fix the whole host of bloopers
which are well recorded on dozens of internet sites? That would make sense.
No, instead he changes Darth Vader's line from 'Bring my shuttle' to 'Alert my star
destroyer to prepare for my arrival.' It's ridiculous. No need, no drive, no aesthetic
benefit (plus the recording of James Earl Jones's voice doesn't even sound right).
He's an idiot who is destined to tinker with movies which were just fine for what they
were until he dies.

But I do have to agree with you about Hayden Christanson in EpVI...it sucks..
And Vhouckham...the Original Trilogy makes sense, the prequels don't. You don't screw around with the original format...and after reading the Ep3 script, it makes sense. Trust me.
Give a guy a near infinate amount of money, an anal personality and a life's work defined by nine hours of cinema, then tell him he can tinker with it - result = George Lucus
When Star Wars came out in the UK I was 6, I then had the films as part of my life till I was 11 and ROTJ cam out, the new films are aimed at the same age group. They are kids films for kids, not new films for old geeks :-)

One could easily imagine the ghost forms would appear as they wished: Obi wan and Yoda were both happy with their self image and appeared as they looked while recently alive, while Vader despised his suit and saw himself as a young man before putting the suit on (and perhaps it was the last time he truely saw himself). Waffle waffle. Still a crap scene change. What would have been worth it would to have put Luke Hamil on with his now much older and noticably worn-out face: that would have tied the family thing up and not looked sadly out-of-place.
As for the han/greedo "incident", a dire scene change. About as bad as one could get.

I was going to write about that same identical line change for Vader and how it was weakened.
Bottom line: Lucas is a whore and it seems more than ever he stumbled upon a good idea and is hellbent on ruining it. Maybe he feels the fear of being forgotten due to triologies like LOTR and the Matrix. He's an arrogant S.O.B. that cares very little for his original fanbase and would rather sell Jar Jar dolls and video games.
