This is the new series, I presume?

Is it really any good? Don't think about SFX and that, think about story, acting, sets, lighting. How did they compare with the original series?

The stories tend to be set on present-day (or near present-day) Earth. As such, the themes tackled tend to be a little more parochial than other sci-fi series.

The acting is pretty poor. Thr critics in the UK have raved about Chris Eccelston's acting. I don't know why - I find it a little hammy and unconvincing myself.

The sets are OK, though.

I think it's as near as we'll ever get to the good old days of Jon Pertwee.
I think Christopher Eccleston's acting is good.
Hammy, yes, but sarcastic with it.
I'm surprised by just how good Billie Piper is.
I was fully prepared for her to stink, but happily I was wrong.

The original daleks in the William Hartnell days had a kind of gelatinous blob inside which was exposed when they died and their tops came off.
The BBC received many complaints that it was too scary for kids, so from the time of Patrick Troughton onwards all we saw was the outside.

I guess you all know Christopher Eccleston has already jacked the gig in.
His replacement is David Tennant (I think that's his name).
He's the guy who played the young Casanova in the recent BBC series.

Also enjoyed seeing the cyberman head. The dalek was cool. Originally the scientist davros designed the dalek shell to protect the weak creatures within. You just have to watch the old omnibus episodes on UK gold when you can!
The new Dr Who was also the policeman in 'Blackpool' in the recent BBC drama, as well as Casanova. He should be quite good.

The beastie within has a long history: Tom Baker was attacked by one in "Day of the Daleks" if I recall aright.

I'm watching in Canada.. I'm assuming that you are ahead in episodes? as there haven't been any Daleks yet.. We're only about 5 episodes in though.. tonight will be part 2 of the invasion of earth by .. can't remember the name of the aliens.., but they didn't call them Daleks. How many episodes have played in UK?
