I've just bought a "frozen durian" from Thailand. Can anyone tell me how I will know when it's ripe, and what to do with it?

When thawing it out, do it in a well ventilated area.

It's already thawed, and has a v-shaped crack in the shell. It actually doesn't smell bad at all.

4. Pop it into your mouth before you start to have second thoughts about the whole business. The texture has been compared to that of a soft cheese or custard.

5. Spit out the rather large, chestnut-sized seed. Vomiting at this point is common but considered bad form.

6. Use lots of mouthwash to get rid of the taste, unless you are one of the few who enjoy the taste of durian. Then, by all means, pop in another section and enjoy!

You have no idea what you are talking about, none of you!

You can't comment until you know how to deal with it, and enjoy it.

Seeds? Spit out the seeds?....... Baa!

So it has a pungent smell, but it is incredibly good for the body - especially for excreting toxins and feeding phoshorous at a level which is perfect, whilst it balances vitamins.

Crawl the google crap all you like. I suggest you get a passport and come and enjoy it...... I'll put you up just for the experience. 😏

I've eaten things that would make a billy goat puke.

Ug, forgot to do the "unfortunate foods" competition at the BBQ!
