one on one games I will T/O after a few days, but will send a reminder before I do so.
Clan games I will take a T/O speraticaly.
Tournaments I will time out instantly. (same as in real life tourney)
Siege games, I have not made up my mind yet. (I am leaning toward immidiatly, because they can get back in line)

Until the timebank system is introduced, let me share my timeout system...
I timeout all games set to 3 day timeouts automatically, without sending any reminder. My reasoning for this is that if my opponent can't make his/her move in relatively short periods of time he/she has absolutely no right to set a 3 day time limit.
I timeout 7 and 21 day games around a day after sending the first reminder. I allow this 24 hr grace period because I respect the fact the my opponent admits that he/she cannot move regularly.
Lastly, I never timeout vacationers as I understand that everyone needs a break - even from Chess!
I hope I have, in some way, provided a solution to your problem.
Happy New Year! 😏
Mine - I give a reminder three full days after the last move, and since most of my matches are clan or tournament, I use the second game as a second reminder around the sixth day (almost all of mine are 7 day t/o's.)
I will then give 48-72 hours after the Claim Win link is up before I time out.
I've only done it once. I prefer not timing out if I can, but I can't wait forever. Flex is just too damn eager to pile matches towards me, it's not fair to him! 😀😀

Tell us all about it Chrismo ..... a timebank feature .... sounds very interesting and promising ....
I'm a bit of a softy with timeouts. In tournaments I leave it to the auto-t/o. I respect vacation flags. Otherwise I have no hard and fast rules, but I'm lenient. I don't bother people with reminders until they've gone past the time limit for a day or so. Then I'll give at least a day or two more. But it all depends. I've only claimed one timeout. It was the third time in a single game that my opponent went over the time limit, and only the first time did he have his vacation flag up. If I had been losing, I wouldn't have claimed the win; but I had an extra pawn and, to my eye, a better position.
I just claimed 2 TO's (7 days), ONLY because the other player has been moving everyday in his/her other matches, and not bothered with ours, AND they only has 12 games in progress.....In my eyes, thats being an egg-nor-arm-ous.....otherwise I have a 7 day TO that hasn't moved since 12/11 but has the flag up, plus has wrote in his profile something about his boss won't let him on at work no longer so it could be 3-4 weeks, so I'll give him the benefit of the dought just for the effort.
