I think really famous bands are not to interested in entering the competition. They don't want to risk their name in a mediocre contest, which is not really watched by the potential buyers, but by kids, old people or freaks, who just want to have a laugh.
Katrina and the Waves for example entered the competition after a couple of more or less unsuccesful years - and won easily.

Jemini was crap, I have to aggree

Allegedly, Jemini (UK) were sabbotaged: they claim their monitors (the speakers they use to hear themselves singing while on stage) were deliberately turned off. Russia claims similar. Who knows though? I know from experience that playing without a monitor is near impossible, so if true, it might explain why the UK's entry sounded like a cat in a food processor. But "nul point" is quite simply far more interesting than the bland 4th place we usually get.

Long live Alf Poier

P.S.: The UK song was one of the biggest piece of @@@@ I have ever heard - so please don't argue that it was political.
I have no arguments with that.
The U.K. have a history in these things.
We got no points.
We will send Elton John next time.
The point is:we took part.
The spirit is to take part.
If we want to win, they will send me next year.
Linda.

I second Darious. in fact, we even suggested him on the night for next year: did anyone elso notice just how many euro male singers look like a fat Darious? (with or without a little mustache). It seems he has the ideal euro look, and with his mindlessly dull pop songs, has the required musical touch too!
