Actually when I typed 'down here in Melbourne' I was thinking on a world scale. I'm actually based in Canberra 😉.

You have an impressive knowledge of the complicated sporting world of Australia though, have you lived here at some point?

Grrrr. Talk about an off track thread.

What begun as a sporting thread quickly turned to a discussion of Politics and Poetry, Authors and Farm Yard Animals.

Doesn't anyone have anything sports related to discuss??

There are Rugby fans in Melbourne thanks very much.

Not many, admittedly. That's why it was so easy to get into the state team! 😀

...and no talk of cross-country basketball, thanks!

Excellent, a mole in enemy territory. I guess you wouldn't have been too happy when the Melbourne Qual. Final against the Raiders was delayed until midnight or some such nonsense. A B grade movie was put on instead I heard.

[b]Mike, please accept my apologies. I've seen ‘The Simpsons’, I've witnessed American humour in action. I fully understand and appreciate the sledge hammer approach to having a giggle, and I'll try to accommodate my North American Cousins in the future.
I can appreciate the sincerity of your apology and I feel the love in it, but please don't think that all of the USA thinks that "The Simpsons" is funny. To me, it's ok - or at least, kind of dumb. Not meaning any disrespect for you Bart Simpsons fans!

As for Sports/Pros: Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, LA Raiders, and Washington Redskins are my favorites. I played college ball with players that are now on those teams.

College: Clemson University, Miami, Ohio, and Univ. of Tenn.

I am with you on this one Dylan. We will not allow our Free Thinking Friends and other such persons to hijack this thread.

1.Michael Scumacher seems set for yet another title.

2.Ernie Els reckons he will shortly take over from Tiger Woods as the best player in the world.

3.The SA cricket team will be leaving for Pakistan shortly despite various bomb blasts in that country.

4.The South African rugby team will face rugby giants Uruquay in their first World Cup match.I am taking bets at this moment.....

Sorry dyl, but I just had to react to one of the opinions brought forward by StarValleyWy. It was just too much !

I apologise.

We're fighting back! Can you hold the fort Johan? I'm on the way to bed, I'll relieve you in the morning.

What's the deal with Tiger Woods lately? A year ago he was winning everything, now he can't seem to do anything right.

P.s.Put me down for $10 on Uruquay.

You guessed it. Lived there as a kid for a few years. My team was Hawthorne. Never heard two words about Rugby the entire time I lived in Melbourne. But that was back in 76-80 so it's a different world now.

And I don't think you need to preface things with "down here in Melbourne" if you live in Canberra. I expect that this is a pretty well educated crowd and they should know about Canberra. Or am I presuming too much.

Melbournites are very loyal (or you could say close minded) when it comes to sport. An Afl team in Sydney has flourished alongside all the League teams, while the league team in Melbourne, even after making it to the final 6, was purposely ignored by the majority of their fan base.

I had meant to type "down here in Aust" but ended up typing Melbourne and in the process managed to confuse everyone. Oh well 😳.

Tiger seems to have had an injury(I think) more to his pride maybe?

1. I am getting behind South Africa now. They have to win the cup.

2. My 2nd team being France.Do we have any French players here? The French are cool.

3. My World Cup predictions:

1st: South Africa!!! Yaaaayyy!!
2nd: Australia
3rd: New Zealand

Your turn Dyl.
