I met, and knew, Prince Edward back in the mid-1980s.


i met Ewan Mcgregor, was shorter than i thought would be, also met Alistair McGowan, Terry Wogan and Steve Coogan, those you not Brits probably got no idea who i'm talking about

It is, at least, no longer a winter's day.


I have shook hands with two sitting "Ministerpräsidenten" Erwin Teufel (baden-Württemberg) and Stanislaw Tillich (Sachsen). I have met Gerhard Ertl (NobelPrize for Chemistry 2007) in the 90's at zeolite conferences when he was not famous yet.

Maya Chiburdanidze, former women's world chess champion. She came to Seattle in 1988 to play a simultaneous exhibition against 20 of us from the Seattle chess club in a prelude to the Goodwill games. After slowly crushing my Caro Kann defense in 36 moves she returned and offered some friendly tips. She spoke good English and was very polite. I also had the honor of taking lessons from Elena Donaldson-Akhmilovskaya who Chiburdanidze defeated for the world title in 1986.
