because trotsky was a true internationalist who wished to see communism spread to all lands to all people. stalin on the other hand was a georgian nationalist who although willing to rule all of the soviet state was one who felt comfortable with borders and identifying ethinic groups as pawns to be used against other ethnic groups. the difference is the strategist versus the tactician. both had guns but trotsky felt the power of an idea was more meaningul while stalin felt a gun was more useful. a bureaucrat versus a policeman. who do you think of the two will control the city at night ?
