Originally posted by c99uxIs the term "Jap" more disrespectful than, say, bloke, Limey, Yank, Kiwi, Aussie, Chinaman, Tommys (Brit soldiers in WW2), Jerrys (Gernman soldiers in WW2), Honkey etc?...wouldn't "Jap" be analogous to "Brit"?...just curious. I suspect that it is taken more offensively, but do explain the difference. Thanks
Let's have a bit of respect please, the correct adjective is "Japanese".
Originally posted by chancremechanicI would be interested to see the explanation to that too.

I knew some jewish people who seriously disliked being referred to as "jews" as opposed to "jewish".
As an English person, it bothers me not in the slightest to be called brit, pom, limey, tommy, bloke etc etc..
Originally posted by chancremechanicIt depends on the person/people it's addressed to. For example, I don't mind if someone calles me a nigger to my face, but I object to being called a "Brit".

Can you sense the difference between these two:
"The Japanese Prime Minister"
"The Prime Minister of Japan"?
The first one, when used by China (i.e. Chinese politicians and media), so offended the Japanese delegates at a meeting that they walked out.
Originally posted by c99uxI guess I can see the subtletys...are you black by the way? It must take living in the culture long enough to get a feel for what right and wrong....

Originally posted by chancremechanicNo, I'm not black. I'm not white, either, and I'm colourblind, so I look a bit lighter than a well-tanned person, but not as white as an albino.

I am a caucasian, if that helps.

write down your fav movie and a bit about it...will watch if get around to it.
A drunk and moody Santa verbally abuses children and even beats one up.
Oh, and there's a sub-plot about robbing a shop with a midget (or small person).
But Billy Bob Thornton really steals the show.

How do they react when reffered to as "Yids", "Kikes", etc.?
Those you mention are obviously offensive terms though, are they not?
[*cockney rhyming slang in case our non UK friends wondered]
