Bill Hader's Stephon character is by far my favorite character. If I had to pick a sketch, I'd say Stephon's Halloween skit was pretty great.

But the sketch that tops 'em all: "In a van, down by the RIVER!"

I agree with you. It has to be deadpan, otherwise it's just laugh-track nonsense. A wink or small smile after the audience laughs is OK though.

They would play Beatles songs and at the end of each line in a verse you would hear..."man"
(He was claiming they kicked him out)
