Three guys go in to rent a car for a day.
The cost is thirty dollars, so each pays ten dollars.
As they leave the office to get the car, the manager realizes they were
over-charged. The cost should have been only twenty-five. He sends
an assistant to return five dollars to them before they leave.
The three men are happy to get a refund, so they each take only one
dollar back and give the assistant the remaining two dollars as a tip.
Here's the problem.
They each originally paid ten dollars for a total of thirty. They each
got one dollar back, so that now they only paid nine dollars each.
Add it up....
3x9=27. Add the two dollar tip given to the assistant and now the
total is twenty nine dollars.
What happened to the remaining dollar?
Good Luck!
Absolutely...does anyone else remeber when Batman and Robin had
to figure that one out in an episode of The Superfriends?
That was back when cartoons were good...then they added Yohann
and Peewee to the Smurfs...Monchichi came out...and the final straw
was Scrappy Doo...since then cartoons have pretty much sucked.

$27 total is correct (3x9=27). The $2 that was given to the assistant
is part of the $27, NOT the difference between $30 and $27! Had 3
guys kept the $2, the cost of the car rental would have been $25.
Since it was a bit of a hassle to split $2 between 3 people, they chose
to give the assitent the EXTRA $2.
Don't subract from $30. Instead, add to $25!
