The following was taken from smh.com.au:

Two men have each been sentenced to 24 years in prison for conspiring to import 120 kilograms of cocaine into Australia in 2001.

John Lawrence, 62, and Juan Diez-Orozco, 50, will be eligible for parole after 14-and-a-half years following today's sentencing in the New South Wales Supreme Court.

Justice Rod Howie found both men had worked in varying degrees to transport the cocaine to Sydney from South America by boat.

The plan went awry when police tapped into the full-scale drug operation, with two teams of men working in both countries to import the drugs.

The drugs were never found - it's believed they were swept away after being packed into a box and weighed down with marine batteries off the Queensland coast............

OK, try out your imagination on this one and finish the story. What happened to the drugs?
Hint: I found it and I'm using it right now or it was swallowed by a shark which had an amazing trip before dying will not win you much kudos.

Meanwhile, in other news... Our reporter at Sydney airport noticed a large demonstration taking place in the lobby. When he approached and asked what was happening, a bystander said "Our Flights have been canceled". Our reporter, sensing a story approached the airport manager and asked about the cancelations.

"Yea, well. Had to you see. We have over 100 South American aeroplanes visiting today on the UN 'Friends Across The Sea' program. They have been offloading and loading pallettes for hours, and with our entire customs staff scuba diving off Queensland looking for drugs... well, you can see that there is no way to check these passengers for contraband, is there?"

Cocaine Haul
A Rockhampton fisherman was arrested after constructing a 10 metre pyramid from fish, prawns and industrial strength superglue in downtown Rockhampton last night. Police later found over 100 kg of cocaine in the man's house.
The man's wife said her husband had been behaving strangely for some time but put it down to too many hours spent out at sea.
"He started doing things he'd never done before," she said, "like the dishes.
"And he even went into the kitchen and cooked dinner,"she added.
"I didn't even realize he knew where it was."
"But I really knew something was wrong when he wrote out this love poem and gave it to me. He even spelled my name right."
She says her husband had been off his food for some time, acting "a little too happy" and speaking in full sentences for the first time in several years.
The woman said that apart from a few wild mood swings, which were pretty normal anyway, she had generally enjoyed the change in her husband and thought it better to keep her mouth shut as he had always told her to.
The man told police he had found the cocaine in his fishing net while fishing for tuna three years earlier. He had kept the haul for personal use, he claimed.
The man, reportedly in his thirties but appearing to be in his sixties, is expected to be held without bail until a hearing of the local magistrate's court later this month.

Part 1.

Poseidon anxiously waited deep beneath the arranged spot. His keen eyes darted back and forth, scanning the ocean depths, his mood oscillating between careful expectation and murderous rage. Had they betrayed him, he wondered? He was in the midst of conjuring up images of the terrible vengeance that would soon be wrought, when he saw it at last. Ah, there was the box, weighted down with marine batteries, slowly sinking toward him. Putting his unfounded doubts aside, he quickly grabbed the box and swam down, down to the deepest depths where no light penetrated and darkness reigned supreme.

Poseidon seldom bothered to rouse himself from the murky ocean depths anymore. His temples were long neglected and in ruins. He hadn’t involved himself in the running of the oceans in a long, long time. But the fact was that Poseidon had little influence in such things anymore. The only thing which brought him up from the bottom these days was his regular rendezvous with the passing boat from which, under cover of darkness, two men would push a weighted box overboard. Poseidon would take the box and sink inexorably back down to the impenetrable blackness of the ocean depths.

Zeus thought the time was ripe. The time to put all his careful planning into effect was nearing. Ever since Olympus had been forced to file chapter 11 bankruptcy many years before, he had been waiting for this moment. He quickly scanned down the results of that day’s financial trading. Yes, there it was: Heaven was down another two points on the Celestial Stock Exchange. Zeus fairly chortled with glee. Ever since that Darwin fellow had come along, Heaven had been losing market share. They had lost much of their customer base in recent years and were appealing to an increasingly smaller demographic. Zeus sensed that a comeback was at hand. If he could get Pluto and Poseidon back on board, together they could raise enough capital to put Olympus back in business. It hadn’t taken much to convince Pluto to agree to his plan, but Poseidon on the other hand...well, there was still much work to be done.

Revised and expanded paragraph 3, plus paragraph 4 and 5.

His focus group testing had shown that consumer confidence in monotheism had also been badly eroded by the “problem of evil” exposé. Zeus sensed that a comeback was at hand. His analysis had also indicated that there was a viable niche market for retro polytheism that he could leverage himself into. If he could get Pluto and Poseidon back on board, together they could raise enough capital to put Olympus back in business. It hadn’t taken much to convince Pluto to agree to his plan, but Poseidon on the other hand...well, there was still much work to be done.

Gabriel lurked in the shadows of a decrepit warehouse as he cast his gaze across the docks. The gentle lapping of waves in the moonlit harbor helped to soothe his unease. He was afraid the big man upstairs was starting to lose his grip on things. Heaven’s monopoly was showing signs of slipping in many markets, and Gabriel couldn’t help wondering if the boss just wasn’t up to the task anymore. In his day, the boss had done whatever it took to enforce the monopoly. Break a few kneecaps, bust a few heads, and everybody knew who was in charge. Gabriel respected that. But things were different now. It was the boss’s son who was calling the shots most of the time these days. Instead of cracking skulls like the boss, the son didn’t like to get his hands dirty, preferring instead to let the lawyers do all the dirty work for him. Secretly, Gabriel thought the old ways were the best ways. He looked impatiently over the docks again and swore he was going to crack a pair of skulls on his own if those two idiots didn’t show up with their boat soon.

He didn’t have to wait long. The expected boat, ramshackle and weatherbeaten, soon came chugging laboriously into the harbor. Gabriel picked up the box he had with him and carried it down to the dock, then helped the two men on board tie off the boat. After the box had been stowed beneath deck, one of the crewmen, named John, asked, “Is that one for Thor?” “No” answered Gabriel, “that one goes to Poseidon.” He paused a moment, then added, “Plus there’s been a change of plans. The boss wants to increase the shipments, so you’ll have to quit wasting so much time and get your sorry butts back here sooner.” John started to protest, but Gabriel brushed his complaints aside and said, “Just finish the job or you’ll catch hell from the boss.” John had heard enough stories of what happened to people whom the boss had found lacking, so he merely nodded his head and prepared to weigh anchor.

I don't know if anyone is still following this story, or not, but it seems to have gone way beyond my original expectations for it. I have found writing it to be quite entertaining, so I'll post a few more paragraphs below:

Zeus pressed the intercom and said to his secretary, “Danae, could you send Mercury in here please?” He swiveled around in his office chair and happened to catch a glimpse of his reflection in the plate glass window. He was clean shaven and wore a finely tailored suit these days. A gentle smile broke out across his face as he recalled his appearance in his former years. Gone were the long hair, flowing beard, and the togas. It was a little embarrassing for him to think back on that time. What a change two millennia will make, he thought.

He greeted Mercury with a firm handshake when he entered the office and wasted no time in getting down to business. “Mercury, as you learned at the last board meeting, we’re almost ready to go public with the new Olympus.” Here Zeus paused momentarily for effect before continuing, “But there’s a problem. Our creditors have threatened to back out if Poseidon isn’t in on the board of directors. I’ve made some very generous salary proposals to him, and even offered to give him back his old office in the Aegean, but he won’t budge. He says he’s just not into that anymore, but I think there’s more to it than that.”

Zeus grimaced slightly as he thought of Poseidon’s present condition, but he put the image out of his mind and continued, “As you know, Poseidon just hasn’t been the same since the Emperor Theodosius foreclosed on all our holdings in 392. He took it very badly. He dropped out of sight, even from us. Unfortunately, we’ve found out that Poseidon has developed a bad drug habit. We also believe that Heaven is his supplier.” Mercury was a little taken aback by that last revelation, but Zeus assured him his information was accurate. “Heaven knew that Poseidon would be vital to any potential reemergence of Olympus,” Zeus explained, “so they agreed to supply him with free drugs, ostensibly as a gesture of good will, but the real reason was to keep him dependent on them and safely out of the picture.” Zeus’s demeanor brightened slightly and he concluded, “We’ve had Apollo investigating the whole operation. We believe Heaven is scheduled to make another delivery to Poseidon near Australia soon. I want you to take the message to the New South Wales authorities and cooperate with them in the case. Maybe then we’ll be able to snap Poseidon out of his stupor.”

I agree. Very entertaining, and I'm stretching my memory a bit trying to remember my greek godiness! Trust me. Their weddings have nothing on their gods. Paganism with a 'tude dude.

Keep going Rob. Very fun.
