I'm all excited today!! I've been asked to play for my clubs 'Thames Valley' team. This is the first time i've been asked to play as a first choice (rather than a last minute replacement). Wish me luck!! 😀

good luck, hope you haven't been doing what I have and played too much correspondence chess that your live game suffers.

Actually i've found i play better because of RHP. We play 30 moves in 75 minutes, followed by 30 minutes each added on for all remaining moves. Before i played here i always ended up with an hour or so left on my clock at the end of the game but now i use the time properly (or at least i did last season, this team plays some 6 divisions higher than the one i played in last year so i guess we'll see..)

Thanks for your support, both of you 😀

I've never played in an official OTB match or even a chess club for that matter. Do they have bars? 🙂

When I lived in london I tried to raise interest in a pub team chess league but came to the conclusion I'm the only chess drinker around.

Well I've tried playing chess in pubs but it doesn't go down too well. People seem to pour scorn upon it and look at it as being nerdish. I can't see why it shouldn't go alongside pool, darts, dominoes and crib etc.

The other day I discovered a bunch of chess players at one of my locals who get together on Saturday afternoons. Trouble is they mostly seem to be elderly coffee drinkers from Eastern Europe (warning signs here) who play five minute chess. I might go there sometime for what I suspect will be a ritual slaughtering.

OMG!!! I must have woken up this morning in petroleum jelly!! I sac'd a piece on move 4! Then i lost the exchange as well!! My opponent was graded 130 (about 1750 elo), i'm only 105 (you don't want to know what that is!!), but i sac'd two pawns and won his Queen!!! Tal would be proud. I analysed with some stronger players after and they were amazed. Yeh that's right, amazed!!! I didn't loose, i can't believe it, wooohoooo 😀
