Adding an open invite with the game name "Engines please" is of course a nice try, but are the cheaters really that stupid?
Originally posted by marinakatombIf it's still there when I have become a 1800+ player, I'll accept it. It shouldn't take more than a few years. π

Originally posted by marinakatombI thought about writing "it shouldn't take more than a year", but then I thought that might be a bit too optimistic. I really don't know. It was easy enough to get to where I am now in less than a year, but at the moment I seem to be stuck, and I think it will be much harder to get from around 1550-1600 to 1800 than it was to get from total beginner to 1550-1600. We'll see.
I don't know, you could do it in a year if you really wanted to. I plan to hit 1800 by the end of the year!
Originally posted by NordlysI totally agree! I hit 1500 in about 8 months of starting the game. That was 4 years ago! I do believe, however, that it is only possible if you believe it is. I started to play on yahoo. They have a purple square for people over 1500 and a yellow sqaure for over 1800. I am convinced that i now see 1800 as an impossibility just because of this 'banding'. WELL NO LONGER DAMN IT!! I've played and beaten numerous players on this site (who were equally rated to me), who have then gone and risen to 18/19/2000 shortly after. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ABOUT!! I'm Next damn it!!! Stand back...coming through...etc....π

Originally posted by marinakatombHm, when I joined TFC (about six months after starting to learn chess, and four months after getting Chessmaster and starting to learn a bit more seriously), I would never have dreamed of getting over 1500 within a few weeks because I wasn't doing well at all in short games against Chessmaster. So it's possible even if you don't believe it is. My disbelief was more out of ignorance of what a TFC rating of 1500 means than out of lack of self-confidence, though, which probably makes quite a difference.

Anyway, go for it!!! And I refuse to believe I'll still be under 1800 in four years. π

But then, I always resign lost games as soon as I see they are lost... Meanwhile I have several games that I am winning and my opponents are taking 7 days to make 1 move! π
Originally posted by arrakisMy rating shot up when i actually started played out the bad one's. Some of the most enjoyable games i've had on this site have been loses! Maybe you'd shoot between 1800 and 1900 by being a bit more stuborn. You recieve few lessons in life if you don't get a good kicking now and then! π

Originally posted by NordlysNo kidding. I remind myself of waves on the beach ... washing in (to 1500+) then just as predictably, out again ... poetic, huh ...
