Waffling by the sound of it! Ask any Scot or Welshman, if they are Scottish/Welsh or British, they will tell you where to go with "Britain", I personally agree with them, I am English first and formost and bloody proud of it, I follow the ENGLAND football, Cricket and Rugby teams. We may be part of "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", but England exists as an individual country, why shouldnt we be proud of it?? ðŸ˜

*You hate foreigners, especially if they are not white
*You still think you are fighting "the war"
*You are thick and vulgar
*You are a hooligan
*You want to fight me
You will be expected to look like the following:
*You have a beer belly
*You have a skin head
*You have prada trainers and a burberry hat
*You are wearing a Hacket polo shirt.
I am proud to be British as it dilutes the nasty taste in the mouth being simply English leaves. Our flag, the St George Cross, is synoymous with right wing extremists and I do not want to be labled with that. Do you not support Britain in the olympics? The British Lions at rugby? the GB tennis team in the Davis Cup?
Britain is a stronger nation together then divided into its parts.

It has been explained before that the flags available are the ones Russ was donated. If you want a Union Jack then make one yourself, give it to Russ and I'm sure he'll be happy top add it to the list. But don't make this out to be another conspiracy against you ('David is top of the tree' 'David wants...'😉

On a seperate but related note, the UK is the only country in the world that fields four seperate sporting teams in most competitions (even more during the commonwealth games as jersy, guernsey and other insignificant islands can have their own teams) - much to the annoyance of minorities in other countries (eg the basque) who wish for self-representation.

ps I'm not sure about the supporting Britain in the tennis - it'll only end in tears

I have just been to Canada and there are lots of flags flying with pride, when you see a Canadian flag outside someones house you do not think "Canadian football thug" which you do tend to do in Britain when you see a England Flag.
There is nothing wrong with the English flag, and England as a nation has a hell of a lot going for it, we are one of the most culturally diverse nations on the planet. But, does the flag of St George represent England as a nation - proabaly not as a lot of our population find it offensive or un representitive of them. This is a sad state of affairs.
Maybe we need a new flag to rally behind that defines us all as one united English nation.

Originally posted by latex bishopagain i disagree - despite it's inherent problems, Britain (and England) is actually one of the most inclusive societies around - remember how well Jean-Marie Le Pen did in the French elections. Just because a few people attach racist stigma to the English flag does not mean that we have to accept that as the status quo. I lived in a highly multi-cultural city (Bradford) for four years and found the diversity enlightening. Many of the "minorities" there considered themselves as English and were proud of it. The English flag only attracts stigma because the Media sensationalises it so, and such perceptions are perpetuated by people such as yourselves. Recently the BNP have been succesful in many northern towns, however, I would be surprised if even a single councillor retained his seat at the next by-elections.

I agreed with you... I said England was a great example of a multiculturally diverse nation, that England has a lot to offer the world culturally, historically, and politically. But, I stand by the fact that internationally the St George Cross and the percepetions other nations hold when they see that flag, does not represent the country as a whole. In that sense it is a failed brand logo.

Contrast that with this, try to imagine an American being ashamed of the Stars and Stripes? In America, I'm always impressed by the flags from many houses in the suburbs - the pride in their nation.
I find myself more 'English' as the other member countries of the United Kingdom push for more independence – it is now my flag. Seems perfectly logical to me.
If you flew a St Georges Cross in the UK, you are perceived to be a racist thug! Shameful. In fact, during every World Cup/European Cup – the only time you’ll get anyone to admit to being even faintly patriotic in this country - I too have a large St. George’s cross on display.
And I must finish by saying, every time I see someone from an ethnic minority wearing an England football shirt (as many do - they are English) I feel an overwhelming sense of pride.

EDIT : And a cracking gag by Mr Rhymester there. My wife is half Scottish - if only her other half was Welsh, after last nights results, I would have had enough ammunition to keep me going for weeks!
EDIT2: PS Anyone want to do some baby sitting for me on Saturday morning. I have some important 'business' to attend to in the pub. (8.30am start, anyone?)

I agree with everything you say here.
I know you have a LOT of stuff you are doing, but could you perhaps make an option where you could replace the flag with another image of the same size?
I have no idea what a lot of these flags are, since there is no mouse over to tell you... but it might be nice for people to replace it anyway if they so desire.
Also, I think it might be neat to see the flag next to the name and forum avatar in the threads... that way I could tell at a glance there are only about 4 people from the US posting in the futbol threads!! 😉
Just a thought.
