In 1989 I booked a flight to Auckland via Hawaii on a Friday, and my boss insisted I fly on Thursday to have more decompress time before my work week began. Several seats, of which mine was one on that Friday flight -- and their occupants -- flew out the window due to a faulty cargo door.
