What are you talking about? I hate flutes! I feel so dirty when I touch one. Especially my own. I disgust myself.

So how do I avoid this dreadful eventuality?

Not buying a flute is not an option, I've been putting this off for 18 years!

Darvlay is kidding: he doesn't really have one, either. He's always borrowing SassyQuatch's, because Sassy's never using it.
Not sure how much either of them paid.

Sadly not a lot, probably the cheapest new ones going, so €200 max.

Oooooh! That's one of those nifty skin flutes right? If so, you're not charging enough.

I bought my mum 1 for under £100 last summer and it was decent enough. Lost the web address for the company - might be this http://www.daveballard.co.uk but I'm not certain. Don't seem to be any for under £100 - the cheapest is £170 but worth looking at the site - click on search this site and search for flute and it comes up with a few places that sell for under £100. Good luck
