You're singing the same song, banging the same drum. Chess improvement is personal. Some improve, some not so much. To a large extent we are limited by ability. The ability to visualize the board and pieces in our mind, and move the pieces all mentally. Problem solving ability, knowledge of the games. Traps, attacks, defenses, learned knowledge and knowledge retention, memory all play a part. All the study and tactical problems in the world will make little difference overall if a guy can't visualize or has little problem solving ability.
Also motivation, you can't teach that.
Most of my ability is natural. I've studied the game a great deal since 1980. I've read My System, Chess Praxis, along with perhaps hundreds of other books. I've played and trained vs weak and strong engines, humans from 900-2400 Elo.
What did I learn? I went from worst to first at the local club. I learned that on any given day anyone can beat anyone else. We are bound by chess rules, if in check you must move, interpose or capture. You are bound by logic, if your queen is en prise to a pawn, you can capture the attacker, move your queen, or come up with some sort of defence. Many options, many choices, and often there is a narrow path to victory. Veer off and game over, if your opponent sees the way.
