Today, the Indepent newspaper in the UK published some stats relating to George Bush's presidency.

Some of this wasn't new information, but some was.
The one which astonished me was, of the 191 nations recognised by the UN, the US has a military presence in 130 of them.
The unemployment rate in Iraq pre/post the war was telling as well.
Originally posted by RedmikeIt's tough being the "Global Policeman", and frankly I wish another country would oblige itself of relieving the US of this uneviable position, but alas no other country has the stamina or means to pull it off. China is up and coming...maybe they could fill in 😉 Postwar unemployment is a problem and so it was in postwar-Japan and Germany, however these two countries weren't so religiously fragmented in a way that Iraq is. Japan and Germany accepted their defeat, rolled up there sleeves and went to work rebuilding their countries. The Iraqis on the otherhand (Sunnis, Shiites, Kurds, etc) refuse to compromise, therefore another Iran is on the back-burner...sad, but true...:'(

I was watching da BBC and they say that the Taliban imposed a ban on the growing of Poppies for a year, or whatever length of time, and during this time the world's herion production was cut by 66% but since our friends in the US saved us all from the evil that was the Taliban, herion production has returned to its original levels. Is it not possible that the removal of the Taliban has indirectly killed more people than had the US not invaded?
It has been pointed out to me that I misread Black Lung's post as the Taliban did not grow poppies. I stand corrected on that, but the point I was making is that if they are ever going to get out of the dark ages they need to be productive in a modern economy. My wife reminds me every time she sees the news with these masses of men protesting (never see any women in the crowds) that they better "get their asses back to work and out of the street."
