After a while my notebook suffered of uploading a lot of trash in it (old files, program remains etc.).I have a valid Windows XP home and two hard disk drives. Now, first I would like to burn on DVD roms all that I need from them and then I would like to delete those disc and reinstall windows. Now, I know that it has to be done in BIOS but I do not how. Is it to heavy to try to do it on my own ?

Its easy. Make sure you have the driver cd that came with the laptop as well plus all the applications that you want to re-install. There is no need to mess with the bios. XP will give you the option to reformat the drive.

Maybe formatting a hard-drive isn't up your alley just yet...

For once Crowley and myself are on total agreement! How about that eh?

Hopefully by now, you have managed to find a solution and haven't gone ahead and completed screwed up your computer.. I fear that it could be possibility 2 (just mentioned) especially given your initial comments..

You might need to adjust the BIOS - but only to ensure that the boot sequence starts with the CD ROM. That's it. You can't do any formatting in there! May the force be with you!

buy an external hard drive, it isn't very expensive anymore, save all of your data there and just go trough the XP guide for formatting and that's all - for future usage make a backup of your system, it saves time! btw, formatting here and there is dvery usefull thing if you want your pc to run smoothly

About sport I could never agree with an Australian... 😕

Anyway, most new BIOS reads the CDROM and allows you to boot from it if a CD is found, so usually you don't even need to enter the BIOS.
I think some older BIOS allowed a low level format, but that would probably just screw up a modern HDD.
