Consider physical cancers: they start as normal cells, doing their thing for the overall organism. Sometimes valuable, sometimes not, but always part of the big picture.
Then something goes wrong. They start to expand, to pollute surrounding matter into an ever increasing mass of uselessness that eventually kills the organism itself.
Now consider some of the 'aggressive' posters on RHP, notably in the debates and spirituality forums. How close is the analogy?
Their posts burst into almost every thread in the infected forum. What is posted is typically drivel and due to their nature, the thread becomes totally personalised, ceasing to be of any use to the idea that spawned it. Ranting may continue for some time but the thread is now dead.
New threads are created at ever increasing rates, throwing all the threads of others off the main page into effective oblivion, leaving just the cancer's opinions as a forum in itself.
How does one treat cancers? Ignoring them is never wise. Cut them out. If you want the big picture to survive, cut them out before it is too late. The sooner the better.
