playing here takes bandwidth. Bandwidth costs money. At first this was covered by C&R's generosity, but when the site took off big style (their own falt, shouldn't have made it so good) they needed help - so in came the origional PS's. The site grew more & subscriptions were necessary to keep it going. C&R haven't forgotten why & how the site started, so haven't shut it off from non-subscribers, but there has to be a limit so that the site can cope on the funds available (at one point the 3rd most active mover was a non-subscriber, the other 2 above in a frantic war).
Tourneys & clans involve playing many games, sometimes when you're least expecting it. With only 6 games total a non-PS can't have enough games spare all the time.
yes, the RHP subscription isn'tasking ofr much in your eyes. To a kid or someone in a poorer country who plays on the work PC it might be an unimaginable sum to give to a website.
One of the most important parts of this site is the family that is created in the forums. to keep out non-PS's would not only be unfair, it would lessen the site by stoping them form contributing.
And another thing - to pre-empt the argument that non-Pawn Stars can post any old contentious/offensive rubbish, there are the Moderators and many people who watch the forums and will have such rubbish removed very quickly.
If R&C locked it down too much, people wouldn't be able to get a good feel for the site before committing hard earned cash.
There have also been several recent cases of individuals who couldn't afford to buy a star being bought them by others because they're valuable to the site - that couldn't happen if non-Pawn Stars are gagged.
Paul.
One other thing....letting non pawn stars into the forums show them how many people there are that are pawn stars - that are willing to pay, and hopefully it might encourage them to do the same. You are right it is not much that pawn stars have to pay - and it is really worth it.
So i disagree with you.
However........i do think that these forums should be changed. No offence intended, but this Bulletin Board is really out of date - I recently set one up with phpbb2 and it is an excellent board and if RHP had a phpbb2 board Russ could easily link it to the RHP main site......The one thing i really dislike about this site is the antiquated forums and that is why i dont post much in here (thank god i hear some of you saying!)
A few examples of good PHPBB2 boards to give you an idea of what i mean......
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/
http://www.nationstates.net/forum/index.php (biggest one - per members - i have seen yet)
http://www.therageclub.biz/phpBB2/index.php (the one that i help to run....you wont see much until you are registered)
I am not having a go - i just think that thes forums could be so much better, and it would attract more people to the site imho.
