I was talking to a friend about what to do with books that I had read and he suggested this site. Unfortunately its not very active in my town yet. I like the idea of getting rid of some of the books that have taken over my home.

Why not donate them to your local library?

Libraries don't take all books. And the idea is to send books on a journey.

My father is friends with the guy who started bookcrossing. I think it's a pretty cool concept, but I haven't released any of my own books yet. I do know someone who has, though. It seems to have worked out well for her.

I released some books a few years ago but they weren't picked up by anyone who responded. I'll have to try it again soon. Thanks for reminding me of the site. ๐Ÿ™‚

I knew a guy in Italy that was into book crossing in a big way. They have meetings he used to attend. He had a bit of an obsession with books I think, he was a librarian too.

I have to say, this is an exceptionally cool idea.

Actually I joined after I saw this thread but only started releasing recently. No-one's gone on to say they've found my books yet but I know at least one of them's been picked up.

They're completely free. Go to Books & People - Go Hunting and having a look in your area.

Do they need to be invisible books or are you not fussed?

Someone I know has also successfully exchanged books (via mail) with several people on that site.

wow sick, 169 books just in my city, i didnt even know that many books existed!

So do you have to find the books? like look for them? some seem to be dropped at a cinema, others in a park, others in a hospital...these are all kinda big areas, i dont feel like wasting weeks of my time looking for a couple of books, when will i play chess?
Also, is there a site where u can look up the sizes of most books? i only need 1 big book lol.

the books dont have to be invisible, this link was pasted by someone earlyer in this forum:

Well a general rule is that non fiction books are bigger than fiction. If something's been left in a cafe or a cinema or whatever it's probably been put into lost property. You know the title, so go in and ask if the book was left there. Job's a good'un. I see quite a few have been left in pubs around my area. Now that would be a good night ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well once you've gone to the trouble of finding the book you may as well take it, mark on the site that you've found it and then release it again somewhere else.
