Friendly Opinion Game (FOG)

In my honest opinion, most all games are essentially mind games (professional sports, octagon fighting, horseshoes, high spirited conversation, high stakes poker, chess, etc.). An obvious yet incredibly underrated strategy appears to be the concentrated focus on breaking an opponent's will to fight, by gradually seizing opportunities to increase the range of your opponent's paranoia; assessing an opponent's strength and converting it to a liability; along with the tactic of doing so patiently.

Your opinions? Anything of general interest and in good taste is fair game.

Do you believe that high-spirited conversation is a win/lose proposition?

I think they are "agree to disagree" situations.

Not quite, Andy. You and I both well know that it's always best when we learn from each other ('Iron sharpeneth iron'😉 and all win by coming away with more than we all brought to the table. Net sum zero gain is for the birds, so to speak. I simply included high spirited conversation in an illustrative series because the pleasure seems akin to poolside ping pong.

No and no. Forums continue to represent an opportunity to meet and greet, swap thoughts and cultivate rapport with folks of all

ages from around the globe. Only strategy is to behave by being appropriate which is to say... Boston Lad continues to learn.

As always, Sir Duecer, I respect your right to an opinion. Should also remind you

that you never had the opportunity of playing horsehoes against my expert Dad.

Of course, Great Big Stees. Those moments, however, need not be frozen in time....

I may disagree with you today, sleep on and ponder your view and change my mind.

thing extraordinarily well: We invariably seem to screw up big time when it really matters.

In a manner of speaking, I would say 'yes' to this question. Now, I am taking 'high-spirited conversation' to mean two equally forceful presentations of diametrically opposed positions of a topic. In the exchange of ideas, there exists an inherent challenge to perceptions held and--- invariably--- one walks away either stronger in their conviction, or now perhaps open to that which was previously unthinkable and/or simply unconsidered.

Like GB, I consider the exchange win/win in that both come away sharper, but it is on the level of the ideas where the battle was either won or lost.

I'm curious: Does this hold true for the lively discussions held in the Spirituality forum? Have you ever walked away from a discussion there feeling open to that which was previously unthinkable?

Yep. You and I versus Dad (preferred style was one and a quarter turn,

rather than end over end) and Phil, two out of three... a piece of cake.

The odds are my opinion would get me a forum ban. 😀

So, I will pass for now. 😉

Friendly game, Very Rusty, with simple rules: "Your opinions?

Anything of general interest and in good taste is fair game."
