If you don't know, The 2010 World Cup is being held in South Africa.
How come South Africa (a team that hasn't done well in previous WCs) gets to hold one? Why not Australia/New Zealand, or Egypt? or Ecuador? or any other team that is very good and hasn't held one (not implying that New Zealand is a good team)? Why is the WC held in Nations that have won it (excluding Korea, Japan, Chile and USA)?

They are trying to roulate the WC between the continents. And Africa has not had a turn yet. I think it is about time indeed. And of all African countries, South Africa is probably the best choice considering the organisations that is involved in the second biggest event in the world. Honestly, which African nation is really really capable of organising a big event, have the funds to invest in the infrastructure AND can get enough revenue out of the investment with tourists. My guess is South Africa is the only one. Well, maybe Egypt and Maroc too...?

Like the Olympics, it's all done with a vote procedure - unfortunately, with the World Cup, corruption is allegedly rife.

See this article for example..
