my initial claim was that Christians should refrain specifically from trash-talking. the question about just sitting and taking it is slightly more complex. yes i do think that Christian ethics does involve 'turning the other cheek' when struck. on the other hand, non-aggressive defence - say, through rational argument - would seem to be perfectly ok. of course, rational argument in support of a belief in an invisible friend and wafers of bread that magically turn into the flesh of a guy who died years ago and far away has always been a tall order. that hasn't stopped some very great minds from trying tho, and here Paul of Tarsus, Augustine of Hippo, Aquinas, and Kierkegaard deserve special mention.

after all, the promise is that wrongs will be righted in the afterlife - do-gooders rewarded, and evil-doers punished. so the Christian can just chill in the knowledge that their invisible friend will sort things out later.

also, it is the meek who will inherit the Earth, apparently, and the meek don't trash talk by definition.
