What's the best way to gamble pn chess?
After a lengthy poker session which went on all night yesterday, four lads remained...
and two got out the backgammon and two the chess board. My mate suggested a similar gambling element:
every time you put your opponent in +, he has the choice of conceding the game and paying the agreed price, or doubling up the price and playing on.
So you can start low at 10/20/40 cents... (we used 40... and then the money gets big quickly, but it does also change basic strategic elements in the game.
Any ideas on the best way to gamble on chess?

I tried that once, but as it turned out, I was duped into playing Fast Eddie "Fianchetto Fats" ...and lost my shirt.
Originally posted by sjegA decent method of gambling in backgammon I have played is to play £1 a point. ie, whoever loses counts up all of their pieces left on the board and that's how many quid you stump up. This is doubled if you are gammoned, ie £15 X 2 = £30 and doubled once again for a back gammon. £60. Harsh, I know but it makes the game blooming exciting if you can afford it.

You could perhaps transfer thi idea to chess. Count up the material points you both have, and the difference in material can be related to some monetary value. Of course, someone could win and be down in material, so some nominal fee could be put into place, let's say £2 or whatever, depending on how flush you are both feeling.
