Yes, i've finally got my i7 gaming rig working. The gtx 295 has been been replaced with a gtx250 (295s have been recalled due to driver issues), and i've been given a week to decide on what graphics card option i want to go with. There's a new radion coming out in a couple of weeks that they could give me, but i was thinking of just taking another 250 to SLI this baby up.
Any ideas on a good graphics card setup option?
Originally posted by huckleberryhoundI have a rig up, not for games, but I use Matrox video cards which have outputs to as many as 4 monitors. I use it for recording audio with Cakewalk Sonar and Pro Tools LE and other stuff. There is a lot of information on such screens and you can put boxes onto other screens, the mouse is set up to jump from monitor to monitor as if it were one big screen. That way you can have say, the music tracks on one screen and the effects stuff on another and they don't get in each others way. It might be good for gaming too, all the rifle reload, status stuff could be on the next screen over. Don't know if that would help in your case but thought I would throw that in.

I clearly explained to you in Thread 126814 how to install the drivers. I have just found out that you don't even need to do all of what I said. You can just download the nVidia 185.20 driver for 64bit Vista and install that and it will work perfectly well for a GTX295 that has been "recalled".
Anyway, to answer your question about what graphics card setup you should get: Stop believing in 3DMark scores, they're meaningless when it comes to actual game performance, and give your computer away to someone who knows what they're doing.
Originally posted by sonhouseAny graphics card made in the last 10 years will probably support more than one monitor. Which graphics card you use makes absolutely no difference for recording audio. Why would you get a graphics setup for 4 monitors when you only do audio stuff on it?

The company that built the machine bought from ASUS, Saphire, and my card was from BFG. MY card was taken out of my machine and tried on a machine with golden parts by a third party and still didn't work. The card was . . .i'll wait for your tears to clear from your hissy fit.....come spell it with me......B.r.o.k.e.n.
The company that built my computer when i told them this took the PC back immediately and replaced it with a 1GB 250 till they did their own tests on hte card. They told me that they had built machines similar before with no issues, except thast this was the first machine with a i7 950 and a tv card installed. . . the third party considered power to be an issue, and the company that built it wanted to rule it out...They said there had been cooling issues with the 295s, and inadequate power to the fan could've caused the problem.
When i returned to collect the machine with the 250 added i was told that they no longer sold hte 295s stating a recall from their suppliers due to "driver issues"...They were offering replacement options to alll the recent customers and told me i could return in a few days when i decide what i wanted to do.

You went to a third party (your mom, I'm guessing) and tested your broken card on their computer. It didn't work either.
Then the prestigious company that built your computer tells you that it broke from lack of cooling, then they recall all their GTX295's because of DRIVER ISSUES?
Instead of wasting everyone's time, you should have just
1) Figured out the card was broken a long time ago
2) Swapped it for a working GTX295 from the dodgy company you bought it from
3) Learned how to install drivers yourself
4) Given your computer away to someone who knows what they're doing. Perhaps trade it for a Wii. I think you can handle a Wii.
GTX295 recalled, lol.

Well here you go "brains of the Transvaal", here's a link to the model of computer i bought and the site i bought it from.....they pulled the card from the site and offered anyone who bought it in the past few weeks an alternative...

Check to see if there's a gtx295 option there.

Here's the asus product page....notice anything missing?
Job's done now anyway....I have 250's in sli, and i got them to add a second hard drive for good measure (I couldn't afford to put two in at the start, but it's been so long since i payed for it i've got spare spends now). Sweet.
Smell you later Magnus.
Originally posted by huckleberryhoundCongratulations on finding a "professional" custom PC assembler that only sells three brands of graphics cards. An amazing selection for the enthusiast. Did you look at Asus GTX295 comments left by users on other retail sites? Going back to September last year people were saying that the card does not work on Windows 7. Next time do your homework. Asus made a dud. Next time buy a BFG or something better, but your assembler doesn't know how to put those cards in the slots so you'd better ask someone else to do all the complicated stuff for you.

Bravo....Bravo.
I went to the BFG site before i posted, they still have it on the site but when you click on it the page "This site is experiencing technical difficulties" appears...the asus page proves my point more.
