Speaks the truth at last?

From his speech yesterday

Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we, Bush said. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.

You are too harsh on the poor guy. He deserves a break.

Why, at around the same time, I believe, he bravely attempted to eat an ear of sweetcorn grown by an Iowan farmer--raw, freshly pulled from a stalk! I saw the photo myself in today Guardian newspaper, with his teeth marks in the sweetcorn!

So don't say he lacks character. I wouldn't be prepared to do this for my country. He possess precisely the go-and-get-it attitude needed to get those Al-Quida wusses, who won't even to eat cooked pork. They'll find they've bit off a little more than they can chew. Just like George himself...

Don't get me started on Dubya. Been reading "Stupid White Men" and "Dude, Where's My Country?". Not gonna post about this again though because the FBI will be at my door.

"Are you questioning the US government? Why? You must be a terrorist. You will be locked up indefinately, with no rights at all!"

so renounce it then...if you dont like the way things are run--i.e. flawed voting systems, premature wars, or what ever you guys complain about then renounce and get out. you people dont have it as bad as you mkae it out to be. im not saying Bush is the greatest president or even a very good one, but some americans here are so eager to put down thier country that id as soon rather not defend them. it makes me sick.

It is precisely this attitude that many people are unhappy about. Disagreeing with the policies of the Bush administration or criticising the way the election was run is not the same as being unpatriotic or anti-American. Some of these arguments may be speculative and overblown to say the least, but "don't criticise our President - he was chosen by the American people, so you're opposing the will of the people and democracy itself" is not an argument at all. Patriotism isn't about saying that your country is good, it's about trying to keep it good or make it better - there are inevitably disagreements about how, though.

you are right. freedom of speech is worth defending. people have the right to say whatever they want. by why would people want to stay in this country when they have absolutely nothing good to say about it. they take for granted all the good things we have here. this country is an easy target for people. they love to hate it, talk about everything and anything wrong with it, and sit on thier rumps and complain about the people who try to make a difference. if you think you live in a dump and have the funds to do something about it what do you do? easy-- you move into a nicer place. if you dont like my dump....go dig somewhere else!

According to the Supreme Court, you are in error in your statement.

That's one of the greatest things about how the Constitution set up the government. It's called checks and balances. The President does not function as a dictator, although from the way the press reports things, many would think that whatever he says, goes. Bickering about a President is nothing new, it's been happening since the beginning.(Even some of our greatest Presidents throughout history have been vilified - Abraham Lincoln for one) We, as Americans, tend to forget that the Presidency is an institution, not a single individual and as such deserves respect. If you don't like Bush, exercise your right to vote in November. If you're not an American, complain to your heart's content, but, bottom line, remember what you said the next time your country asks us for help or foreign aid, etc.

But I do agree with our Marine friend and Acolyte, complain all you want about the individuals occupying governmental positions(that's your right and duty as an American) but don't start blasting my country. This country is run by a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. The last time I looked around, in spite of it's faults and shortcomings, it's still the best country in the world...or at least in the top 3(just trying to avoid unnecessary confrontation there) 😀

I don't believe I said that in my diatribe. 😉

I won't even bother to get into a discussion about the United Nations, until they have shown that they are a meaningful entity. 😛
