Giant chess set

General

Hi
A friend and I have just completed a giant chess set and intend to play our first game in a few days.
The board is 90 square metres or nearly 1000 square feet.

The chess pieces are made of solid oregon timber, hand turned on a wood lathe.
The heights range from 1 metre or 3 feet to 300mm or 1 foot.

The total project has taken nearly a year.

Are there any other home made giant chess sets out there?
Have a look at my home page for a picture .. Rocoll

Had a friend in Ascot, Brisbane (named Barrie Byrnes who died in his mid-thirties)

who would have gladly composed an anthem to accompany your upcoming game.

The local paper is going to take photos and run a feature.
I've seen helicopters flying over lately. Could that be the press getting aerial shots for the article? ha ha

I've just had a look at these in bigger photos, they're really something - and they all have tiny castors so it won't be a hassle to make a move!

Nice work.

Yeah we had to put the castors on to protect the base and help with moving the heavy wood pieces.

Nicely done.

Were you working off of plans made by someone, or did you freelance it?
