What's the maximum attachment size?
With Google Mail, you can send and receive messages up to 10 megabytes (MB) in size. However, the precise amount allowable will depend on the attachment.
When you add an attachment, the size of a file may increase because transport encodings are automatically added. (Transport encodings are the information that allows your message to be safely sent and read.)
This means that in some cases, attachments that are 6 to 10MB in size may push the total message size above 10MB. When this happens, Google Mail displays a warning that your message exceeds the 10MB limit.

Maximum message size is 10 MB
You can send and receive messages up to 10 megabytes (MB) total (including attachments). If you attempt to send a message that exceeds this limit, the message won't be sent.
Edit - You could Zip the file first though? Compressed filesize might be less than 10mb.
To be honest, 10mb is getting to the point of being a bit big to send via email - an ideal time to learn about ftp 🙂
Originally posted by rhbthank you. it's over 13 mb... so I don't think I can compress it to under 10 mb. Will see if I can do it from another (unused) mail account I have.

No worries, I hope the recipient isn't on a 56k dial-up connection 🙄
I thought about hosting it somewhere, but I don't want anybody to be able to download it-do you know something like yousendit.com where you have password protection (you need to enter the password before you can download it) ?

very weird... I sent it from gmx.net (which allows up to 20 mb attachments per mail) and sent a copy to my gmail address... it greatly exceeded 10 mb, and yet I still recieved it on gmail.
Very weird indeed 😕
