I wonder how long they will keep the bar before they are nabbed? Looks like a way unplanned robbery to me. This will end up on the Dumbest criminals list for sure!
They didn't even wear masks or such, probably even left all kinds of fingerprints over everything. Dumb Dumb Dumb!

Just as dumb as the museum managers, who left a 1/2 million dollar artefact unguarded and in a position to be easily accessed, I guess. I reckon that the bar will be melted down by now and worth nothing but a fraction of its original value. Probably just enough for the perpetrators to get wasted for a month at most. Even if they do get caught, a piece of history will have been lost by disorganised idiots. Dumb dumb dumb!!!

Whoever came up with the idea of letting people handle the bar deserves a medal! Irony would say it has to be a golden medal.

The melt value is about $50,000 or more.

16.5 karats is about 65 percent pure? and 75 ounces, so 48 ounces of gold.

I would have taken it, if I had the chance...and I was single.

EDIT Closer to $60,000

They will get caught for sure. So stupid to just come and do it in plain sight when they have to know cameras pave the ceiling! If they had donned masks at the last minute in a place where there were no cameras and worn gloves....

In a place like that "masks" are kind of hard to do.
They have plenty of cameras...so should they wear masks before entering the building? Nobody would notice? They had to enter knowing they would be on camera.

Wear a mask walking up to that place and see what happens. Then post here your results.

Everyone assumes some theft or "caper" should be the perfect crime where they never get caught. Most criminals don't G.A.S. and they just want the quick cash.

Think about it.

"masks at the last minute"?

I know authorities are dumb but give them some credit.
The video footage we saw on the news in less than half of what the FBI has. They give you just enough to help identify the "perps" (Cops love that word...)
They have footage of them entering and exiting the building. "Masks' do nothing.
Gloves may help....
